City of New York

Manhole Cover, NYC New York ~ May 6, 2009

This manhole cover was made in India. There were some interesting comments when I posted another metal cover in Astoria, Oregon, that was also made in India. Especially check out the comment by Kcalpesh on that post. I thought maple leaves were the symbol of Canada, so maybe this is a secret passageway to our neighbor to the north.

Urban art at a Metro Train Station, Los Angeles, California 2003 - photo by Francisca Los Angeles ~ 2003
From the series "Los Angeles Urban Art 2003"

Today I'm posting a random shot from a number of photos Francisca generously loaned for use on this blog. She wrote, "These were all taken on the Metro Train route from LA Airport to downtown . . . each stop has wonderful urban art." Check out Francisca's View Thru My Global Lens.

On Oxford Street

A manhole cover on Oxford Street, London London ~ February 14, 2010

All pavement photos are not pretty, but they're interesting in their own way. One of the first things that caught my attention was the incredible variety of metal covers and gratings, their interesting patterns, the words saying where they're located or where they are made. Love the cowboy boot.

Divine Either Way

Grating in the floor of the Divinity School, Oxford, EnglandOxford, England ~ February 18, 2010
Divinity School, Bodleian Library

This building is famous for its architecture, particularly the stunning fan vaulting of its Gothic ceiling. If you look away for a moment, you may discover this beautiful grating in the floor.
