One of the many fun things about being in New York City after having not visited for so many years (decades) was finding delightful Art Deco designs everywhere I looked. I'm sure that when I was there in 1969 (?) I didn't even know what Deco was.
I'm not sure why this photo doesn't show it as intensely as I remembered, but I don't think I've seen as much chewing gum on the ground in one place as here outside of a disco in Oxford near the train station.
I believe this was in the Roman section. Since it's on the floor for everyone to walk on, I think it must be a reproduction or a design meant to recall the period.
I love the cobbled streets of Europe with their painted fan-shaped markings. I have no idea what the fan shape means, but it's fun to look at and adds a certain character.
